The question I really want to know is what is best and why: porcelain enameled cast iron or stainless steel grids?

I saw a review segment on the news this afternoon, I can’t remember the exact models they rated as best, but they said to save money don’t buy all the fancy ones that have features you won’t use such as the chicken rotiserie thing that turns around :) I’ll check their website if they’ve posted the report.

Well, I did find the report, it says in part:
“The Kenmore model 16641 is a best buy at $350. There is also a Char-Broil brand commercial series grill that is also a best buy, at $300. Both grills can handle high temperatures without excessive flare-up and turn out great-tasting steaks, chicken and fish.”

You can watch the video and read the full report here:

I’d probably go for the porcelain-enameled cast iron grates, b/c cast iron holds heat better. I don’t have a grill, but that would be the way I’d go. I do have several cast iron skillets, dutch oven, etc. I like cooking with cast iron.
