I prefer the stainless steel. Porcelain (at least mine) chips and rusts.

Porcelain coated should last longer as long as you are careful not to bump and chip them. Once they are chipped, they will rust quickly. If they are going to have any kind of rough treatment, the stainless steel should be your choice.

porcelain is SUPPOSED to be better. i personally have both, and hate the porcelain. it breaks off little pieces when you scrub it with the grill brush. i always feel like the black flecks on my steak are a chunk of porcelain. the stainless steel also adds flavor to the meat because it gets a slight coating of ’seasoning’ on it that burns to your meat.

I sell grills at a Pool and Spa store, and i always find that the majority of people are happy with the porcelien, AS LONG AS ITS USED AND MAINTAINED PROPERLY! Yes, it will chip when not used right, but stainless doesnt hold flavor (which is its main purpose…) cast iron will rust very quickly.. Nothing is perfect. I personally use a coated grill, and find it cooks very evenly and holds heat well, and doesnt chip or anything when its treated right (ie no steel brushes, bumping into stuff, etc.)
