This BBQ Sauce is a thick sweet sauce with a touch of heat to give it a little kick. This is a great barbecue sauce on BBQ Ribs.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup ketchup
1 cup water
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cayenne
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over a medium heat. Stir constantly for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sauce should be thick. Allow to cool. Store in an airtight container. Refrigerate.
Good Luck!

Well, I don't know where you live, but maybe this will help:

http://www.sweetbabyrays.com/Finder.aspx

If you can find a grocery store near you that stocks it, you're good to go. It may even be worth driving a couple of hours and buying a whole case of it at once.

EDIT IN LIGHT OF NEW INFORMATION:

Ah, I see! You're looking for something more economical.

I would suggest that if you try to make your own version of brand-name sauce, you and your family will find yourselves comparing it with the "real thing", and will feel a bit deprived because you have cut back from buying the real stuff. Instead, make your own unique sauce for homemade barbecue.

For example:
1 can of frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon red pepper (cayenne)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon clove

Mix thoroughly and use as you would bottled sauce.

Ran out of Sweet Baby Ray's
and needed something to make
BBQ Country Style Ribs

1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 1/2 tablespoons dry mustard
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper
2 dashes hot pepper sauce

In a blender, combine brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, water and Worcestershire sauce.
Season with mustard, paprika, salt, pepper, and hot pepper sauce. Blend until smooth.

FOOTNOTE
This will fill a 32 ounce ketchup bottle exactly
. Cut back on the brown sugar to make it less sweet, or add more Worcestershire for more 'steak sauce' appeal.

I have this rule, why bother making something when the very best already exists, especially since the ingredients you would need to create it would cost you 10 times more than buying the product itself. That goes for Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce. It isn't a top secret, award-winning recipe for nothing ;)

I am going to offer you one suggestion, by the time you get down to make it, you will be disappointed. Best solution is go to Sweet Baby Ray's if you can, and buy a couple of gallons.
